This is all wrong. Judges should insulate themselves whilst in office, for credibility’s sake.

It is the small price they need to pay until they decide to retire.

It’s like saying you would not expect Joseph Muscat to spend a night playing on slots in one of the many small parlours we have scattered round the island. It is not a bad thing in itself but unethical for a prime minister to mingle with the elder folk losing their pension on slots.

Mercieca is no longer chief of staff at the Ministry of Gozo. He has now become court attorney for Judge Mintoff and drafts his judgments from his home as he himself publicly said.

All his efforts to become a magistrate have been in vain up to now as Owen Bonnici, for some obscure reason, has preferred much more mediocre candidates than someone who at least has a sound knowledge of the law.

This looked very much as a consiglio di guerra between old comrades after the Brussels debacle.
