I apologise for failing to make myself understood. What I meant was that it was Toni Abela who got the worse treatment. Anglu Farrugia, as you rightly pointed out, got the Speakership and his humiliating exit from ‘the political fray’ (the speaker is supposed to be neutral), was kept at national level.

Toni Abela was sent to a pack of international wolves on an international platform and cannot turn back and say the prime minister trapped him. He would look petty and ungrateful as Muscat would hide behind the excuse that he simply wanted to offer him a good opportunity and had no way of knowing that he was to be rejected.

The words are carefully chosen …”only honourable option”, “If he respects himself”, “he has already promised”, “not the right candidate”, “have to recommend the Dr.Abela should be turned down”, “loud and clear” and “an affront to the European Parliament”.

The message is there written on the wall: “Toni Abela, pull out”.

He has clearly lost all self respect. He would never have gone for a totally unfit post otherwise. I believe he was desperate for a job now that Joseph Muscat made it clear that he wants to be rid of him – worse treatment than Anglu Farrugia got in my opinion.
