Another thing that struck me is that fixing a football match seems to merit much more urgent attention than, say, a minister and a top government official acquiring money laundering instruments.

Many people have the psychological ‘ability’, for want of a better word, of dividing their lives into various sealed compartments, as it were: “Now I’m in parliament, I’m an MP, now I’m in Court so I’m a lawyer, now I’m at the Sports Council and I’m a chairman”.

The different roles are completely separate and do not interact and the person sees this as perfectly normal. It’s like having multiple social personalities.
