Looks like this protest (and more importantly, why the protest was held) has reached remote countries of the world such as China and New Zealand. But somehow, in an unusually strange manner, it hasn't reached Brussels, the EU headquarters.

This is very bizarre, given that the EU has its watchdogs to keep an eye on what's going on in its member States.

Well my 11 year old son was explaining corruption to his younger brother aged 9 on the way into Valletta yesterday afternoon.

He asked his younger brother "would you hide from a police man?" The young one said "No, why would I ?, I did nothing wrong", to which the elder one said, "If the minister has money hiding places, it only means he has lots of money to hide, and that's not good, cause it's our money".

Today I realised how different my childhood was to what my children are living today. Luckily my children know nothing about politics.

I realised how little they know when today I took them to the protest and had to explain so much for them to understand.

We lived politics differently as children. We felt its repercussions on a daily basis - no decent chocolates, no colour tv, crazy telephone lines, hopeless pasta, water on and off, school closed down, private lessons at your teacher's home, fear, daily news of corruption and crimes etc etc.

As I took my children to the protest today I remembered how political meetings were almost a weekly outing for us as kids at one point in time.

Today I also realised how quickly we could lose what we have gained over the past 25 years, and which till just 3 years ago we took so much for granted.

There are very worrying signs in front of us. Let's hope we see them and act upon them before its too late and our country returns to the mayhem of the 80s.
