Because religion is specifically recognised as the official religion of Malta in the articles of the Constitution of Malta but homeopathy, astrology, unicorns and the tooth fairy aren’t. I know of course that people with a certain bent would like to have that article removed but they would have to lump it, those articles are still there.

I certainly don’t think people should be arrested for vilifying or making fun of a head of state or any other fellow mammal.

People should not be arrested and/or imprisoned for vilifying religion or blaspheming (shouting in public is breaching public peace and a different kind of offence altogether).

When any institution makes the sort of claims that organised religion does, it can expect to be ridiculed by those who find such claims to be untrue and in certain instances, offensive. Asking for the imprisonment of those who ridicule or vilify religion is just wrong.

Yes they do, especially in other Catholic countries. Ours seem the most colourful because they are the ones we are used to, but I can think of some equally explicit expressions in Spanish and Italian.

The problem might be linguistic. In English, feasts are celebrations and celebrations mark happy events or celebrate people positively. The English word ‘feast’ (a big meal to celebrate a happy event) is part of this.

Christmas Day is a feast. Easter Sunday is a feast. The name days of saints are feasts. But Good Friday and Our Lady of Sorrows Day are not feasts. Good Friday is particularly not a feast because food is expressly forbidden.
