Daphne, I have been wrecking my brain over a very simple query. Why wasn’t the most important story to come out under this Government not given to one of the three main newspapers, The Times , Malta Independent and Malta Today?

The reason for not trusting the Malta Today is obvious, it is a newspaper used by the Muscat government to publish stories the Government wants to air, latest being the Ann Fenech saga, so not to be trusted.

The choice between the other two newspapers, Times and Independent I would have thought that on a circulation – basis, the Times should have been trusted with the story. So why wasn’t this story given to the Times?

The only plausible reason that I could come up with is that whoever had the story did not trust the Times with it. That is not trusting the Times to safeguard the source.

A damning reason for the Times, since it implies that the source felt that somehow there could have been a leak of the identity of the source. And I am sure the Muscat government would love to get its dirty hands on the source.

This story is truly a feather in your cap and I think your strong showing in the Court to safeguard your source in the other Mizzi case was one of the factors in your favour.
