What the people want is is good governance NOW. Comparing with the past gets us nowhere. It amounts to saying that because you did something wrong it’s OK for me to do likewise. This is puerile at best.

This of course does not even take into account an even greater irony – namely that Labour won the general election on the basis of a solemn promise that it would do things differently. At this point they not only embarrass themselves. They embarrass the country.
