I have always gone by the following in assessing whether a person is intelligent or not, and they have never let me down.

1. Is he/she able to zone in on the crux of a problem/issue without missing the wood for the trees or becoming distracted by side-issues?

2. Is he/she able to understand complex abstractions without having recourse to concrete examples by way of illustration of meaning?

3. Does he/she have a sharp wit and sense of humour?

4. Is he/she self-deprecating?

You are exactly right, callixtus – the sense of entitlement among Laburisti is literally unbelievable.

They expect free housing/education/health, a government job and not to pay taxes. And that’s just your common/garden Labour voter. Those whoactually “work” for the party expect much much more – and get it.

The Nationalist Party is a little like that, but no comparison.

Then by definition they are not intelligent. Real intelligence is extremely rare. Never confuse it with anything else, like an ability to perform tasks, read papers and understand them.

The Labour demi-gods are probably financially well set for the rest of their lives. They can try bluffing their way out while refusing to see the writing on the wall, but truth will out. And probably sooner than later.

Then there are the mere ‘mortal’ Labour politicians who see the party and government hijacked by the anointed top trio who repay their trust by dragging the party and the government through muck.

They know they are losing credibility by the hour. They also know that their political future is being jeopardized by their own leaders, selfishly and for personal greed.

They have the means to salvage at least the party if not the government, but who is to emerge as the torch-bearer for others to follow? Time is running out for the corrupt leaders. Time is also running out for the new emerging Labour leaders who will replace this scum, but not if they are linked with them now.

Tick tock. Tick tock.

Itchy arse, sticky fingers: the smell is so putrid that it cannot be tolerated. Unfortunately, even if we had to see a number of resignations, the seat majority is so high that nothing can be done.

Can you imagine, for example, James Piscopo and his new house loan, adhering to principles if he has any, when he knows that if he is not chairman of Transport Malta for the next 7 years he has to default on his loan.

They are with their backs to the wall, but because of their commitments they have to support and tolerate this situation.

You are an ace – at least I can say that my priciples are exactly like yours and thus I am proud to be Maltese, because of your princples, integrity, honesty, and commitment to your job.
