You think that way because you must live in a strange world where sources contact political parties, rather than journalists. In the rest of the (civilised) world they contact journalists.

A news story is a news story, not political ammo. The political parties are not even supposed to have television and radio stations and newspapers. It’s telling of our society (and our lack of media freedom) that they do.
