And our upstanding Minister of Finance would have us believe that setting up these kinds of trusts and companies is the normal practice of ministers and elected officials in European democracies to avoid conflict of interest.

Now that Panama Papers has erupted, Scicluna’s cover story has been blown out of the water. Out of all the 28 countries of the EU, including the appallingly corrupt Bulgaria and Romania, the only minister who features is our very own Konrad Mizzi.

No – because the ultimate beneficial owners of the Mizzi trust which owns the Mizzi company are Sai Mizzi Liang and her children.

Keith Schembri is the ultimate beneficial owner of the trust which owns his company in Panama, so if either of them is identifiable as the Prime Minister’s front, it is he. He didn’t need the Panama company anyway because he has one in the British Virgin Islands (though of course he may have wanted another one anyway).
