I understand your anger, and I was being ironic. But my point is Eddy Privitera is right about this. Muscat still leads the polls on the issue of ‘trust’, and I do believe that the majority of us do admire a person who is Machiavellian and scheming in his dealings with others, whether in business or otherwise. It comes, I suspect, from our servile survivalist mentality.

Malta is a very small society of less than half a million people and it is perfectly possible and legitimate to study that society as a whole. It is done all the time in sociology and anthropology.

No, I am not attacking the messenger. I am merely pointing out that good writing is a reflection of good thinking, and that both are essential for the job of a newspaper columnist.

My only comment about Mario Demarco is that his best friend badly betrayed the trust that was placed in him and, as is clear to me from Malta Today’s shrill defence of that crook Hillman, continues to betray it still. Exactly where do you think that story came from?
