The Maltese are a mix between northern Africans and the old-style Sicilians.

After Muscat became Labour leader in 2008, the party’s severe financial problems – it was technically bankrupt – miraculously disappeared. They are supposedly running on a surplus despite what should have been a financially crippling electoral campaign.

This could have only been achieved by pre-election deals with dodgy states and dirty investors who had their eyes on large government contracts.

This will have been masterminded by Keith Schembri with Muscat’s blessing. Muscat’s hands are now tied, because whatever move he makes will leave him in a checkmate position. So he will make no move at all.

I realised that Malta is the backwoods way back in 1969 (47 years ago) when I first went to study at the University of London. I must admit that there has been some improvement since then, but not much really.

This is what Louis de Boisgelin (1804) had to say about Keith Schembri’s forebears (the Maltese).

“Their countenances announce an African origin. They are short, strong, plump, with curled hair, flat noses, turned up lips and the colour of their skins is the same as that of the inhabitants of the Barbary: their language is also nearly the same.

“Notwithstanding. .. good qualities, they still retain some of the defects generally attributed to the Africans; and are mercenary, passionate, jealous, vindictive, and addicted to thieving.”

No, I am NOT implying that Israel is corrupt. I said something else entirely: that even though Malta is so close to Italy, Tel Aviv and the people there are more noticeably more familiar. Sitting in coffee-shops there I actually forgot I was not in Malta. That never happens to me in Italy.

Are you implying that Israel is corrupt? You do realise that they jailed Olmert, their former president for misconduct. Can you imagine that happening here?
