Without making any assumptions that there was illegal activity, it’s already bad enough that Konrad Mizzi set up the Panamanian company in the first place.

Then to add insult to injury attempted to set up bank accounts for the company in jurisdictions known for banking secrecy (Dubai and Panama).

Then on top of all that we learn that Konrad Mizzi’s financial advisers were pressing hard to have those same bank accounts set up by no later than 28 August 2015 (around the same time that the health care contracts were being negotiated and concluded).

Now there is absolutely nothing illegal or fraudulent about any of the above. However, if a person who is politically exposed sets up secret structures, the likes of which are generally used by tax evaders, money launderers and corrupt politicians, especially under the above mentioned circumstances of private meetings with shady and corrupt dictators, unpublished contracts, vague answers to the press in response to direct questions, and a few other suspicious circumstances, then that same politician’s position instantly becomes untenable whether or not there is any proof of illegalities.

The beneficiaries of Konrad Mizzi’s trust, on the other hand, are his wife and children – which means that it’s not a front for the Prime Minister. Had it been Mrs Mizzi alone, perhaps, but not with the children there too.
