British love a good protest whether it’s about politics, finance, health, transport or immigration so I hear it a lot in the same context.

I use it ironically.

And I have never heard ‘shame on you’ used in any British context in the last three decades.

‘Shame’, yes, but ‘shame on you’, never. It is archaic.

I live and grew up in England, school and university in England, work in London and most of my friends are English. Should have specified that when I stated that I hear the phrase regularly.

A good example is that you use the phrase “as if” quite regularly to dismiss a comment or statement. British do not use that phrase. It is an Americanism but Maltese do use it regularly.

‘Shame on you’ is archaic and you hear it regularly because you are Maltese. If you Google ‘shame on you’ you will get plenty of Maltese links and some colonial ones, a couple of American ones, and little else. No, it is not all right for Malta and the Maltese to invent their own form of English.
