“Permitted to receive a colour television”

It sounds so out of this world now, that I think we should let the younger / foreign readers of this blog that such “permission” was not “permission” per se, but that it came at a huge cost, especially for the time. Did the infamous Grundug colour televisions not cost the “buyer” something in excess of LM500 (the equivalent of today’s 1,165 Euros), which was probably the equivalent of five months’ salary for te average person at the time?

Wrong! If you cared to notice, Scicluna and Brincat were not even present in parliament to vote on Marlene Farrugia’s motion. Louis Grech was in hospital.

Leo Brincat’s foolish lack of judgement is not exactly a state secret. When he was a minister in Sant’s government he appointed a notoriously crooked enterpreneur who ran the family companies (which enjoyed special status during Dom Mintoff’s bulkbuying era) chairman of the Malta Export Trade Co.

Within the year, Norman Zammit was charged with conspiracy in the theft of valuable antiques from the homes of his friends and later on declared bankrupt.
