A badly run loss making airline in the middle of its own restructuring programme is going to take over Air Malta – that’s the bottom line.

That’s all this government could find worldwide to say they have found someone as everyone else had turned them away.

You are right, Tax Payer. This happened with the Enemalta employees, who ended up working in the gardens at the President’s Palace, whiling the time away.

No wonder Joe Muscat and his Party are happy because Malta’s unemployment is one of the lowest in the E.U.

In reply to Osservatore. I think that is too facile an argument. There are technical issues that may have driven the decision that we may not know about. For instance I understand that that aircraft is very low maintenance. Just saying but let's not rush to criticise.

You are very correct. The problem as always is that, just when the Nationalists are about to solve an issue or launch a good project, in come Labour and screw it up. We can cite numerous examples.

Since the government abandoned the restructuring plan of Air Malta, it doesn’t have any more choices. It is either to liquidate the company or give it as it is for free.

How could they restructure and at the same time put every Labourite Tom, Dick and Harry on the Air Malta payroll.

Now we find out that these Tom, Dick and Harry will automatically get a government job paid for by us.

And it could have been managed even better had it not been for a number of strategic blunders by political appointees who should have known better. The RJ7O debacle, just to mention one.

Arguably, that’s because they were trained by PIA to run a legacy 1980s era airline. It wasn’t very hard to make money when Air Malta competed against a few other legacy carriers on a handful of routes and held monopolies on the rest.

Then the paradigm evolved, and the rug was swept from underneath the management.

I suspect half of them still have trouble to this day understanding how their business has changed. They still think in terms of ‘where do passengers want to fly?’ while LCC’s think in terms of ‘which destination should we fly passengers to?’
