The two votes of “no confidence” in the government and in Konrad Mizzi were, in my view, fantastically clever tactical moves, even though they failed to be endorsed.

They both had the effect in one fell swoop of tainting all Labour MPs with complicity in the alleged corruption, there to stay for ever like the mark of Cain. Nothing will ever erase this blemish.

Prior to the votes, Labour MPs could still declare that they were keeping their distance from the mess that Konrad Mizzi, Keith Schembri and the PM had created, and the censure the trio had brought upon themselves, the country and their party.

Some Labour MPs – not all of them, mind – could, to some degree, protest their abhorrence of structures created in jurisdictions so dear to corrupt politicians, money launderers and criminals. Hence the internet comments and the statements by the Education Minister, the Finance Minister, the Labour whip, former prime minister Alfred Sant and others, besides the underlying sentiment of the majority of labour MPs.

After the vote and with their vote, they checkmated themselves and threw out of the window any remaining semblance of integrity they may still have enjoyed until then. They all became contaminated and polluted just like the trio in the dock.

In their place, I would have cursed Muscat till my last breath on earth for making me prostitute myself for his own ends.

Simon Busuttil should tell them where to go and where to stuff it next time Muscat and his minions accuse him of negativity and of ‘hsara lill-Malta’. He’s being too soft on many issues.

The Labour Party did real harm to Malta for 25 long years in Opposition (over and above the harm they did in government), opposing all the wealth-creating decisions, including EU membership.

Muscat is a hypocrite of massive proportions. Add to that the fact that he’s the worst liar we have had in Malta’s modern history, and leading the most corrupt administration since 1987.
