The Speaker, now in charge of directing the Newspeak vocabulary in Parliament reflects that actions are not what’s important to this Government but that how they are reported and described is extremely important. That’s what stays on record.

This is code switching in its practice and before our eyes.

The Speaker is very wrong to deflect in this manner.

Only if you assume, like most men do, that ‘everyone’ is a man and interested in football. That’s not the case at all. I have always lived in a completely football-free environment, for instance. In reply to me. My reaction to that article, given the timing, years after those events and when Mrs Borg Cardona is nod the subject of criticism as chairman of the Broadcasting Authority, is that it is an image-building exercise for her at the expense of the privacy and dignity of her dead best friend and her daughter.

It is in extremely poor taste, and seems to be an article where advantage was taken of a young woman who has not laid her ghosts to rest, written to glorify her “fairy god-mother”.

If I were Tanya Borg Cardona – out of respect towards both the girl’s deceased parents (let us not forget she had two) – I would not have agreed to the article being written, let alone published. What terrible taste.
