In reply to Daphne Caruana Galizia. They probably could not directly, but they can sure enact laws and whatever legal means it takes to lengthen and obstruct any judicial process. The current and never ending court case deciding the allocation of parliamentary seats since last general elections is a case in point.

In reply to Leli. HSBC has so many skeletons in its global cupboard. The Addolorata cemetery is a casino in comparison. This tiny, puerile incident in Malta is a drop in the ocean. Everything will be whitewashed and hushed up. Trust HSBC to do that in a very professional manner.

As far as I know of the law and I am not an expert, HSBC and BTI are both subject persons under AML regulations. A false declaration is an offence under same regulations. HSBC (and BTI for that matter) cannot but investigate and report suspicion.

HSBC would become part of the corruption if its directors decide not to file a police report and hush the matter up instead. The gravity of the crime increases due to the direct connection between the perpetrators of the documents’ forgery and the Office of the Prime Minister.
