Fine, but that’s not the point. The fact that the reference is unsigned is of no significance in and of itself. However, given the circumstances it does mean that 1. we can’t assume the client report is authentic and 2. if it is genuine, that it was issued in good faith.

I surely hope so.

Money launderers do not go around carrying placards with the legend “I am a money launderer”.
Simple bank clerks have it drummed into them to be on the lookout for any signs of money laundering. If anything rings an alarm bell, they have to stop in their tracks and report it. Otherwise they are held personally and criminally liable for aiding the money launderer.

The Finance Minister of a country which markets itself as a financial centre, a “Professur” of economics and a member of Ecofin no less, and an aspiring member of the European Court of Auditors voted not once, but twice, to express their confidence in a minister who set up, (in tandem with the chief of staff at the Office of the Prime Minister), a financial structure in a shady jurisdiction which triggered a cacophony of deafening alarm bells in nine different banks around the world and in the Prime Minister who appointed both of them and pulled out all the stops to defend them, protect them from scrutiny and keep them in their places.

It simply beggars belief.
