In reply to Daphne Caruana Galizia. The only guy I know in Rome who uses a Ford Focus is Argentinian Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Whether he belongs to the Mafia or not is a moot point.

Not at all. They store up money like their not-so-remote ancestors stored up onions for the winter. It’s an ancestral compulsion to store up the means to fend off starvation. John Dalli has exactly the same problem. It comes from the hardwired anxiety and fear over centuries of subsistence poverty that is not alleviated even by recent financial comfort. Anxieties and stressors of all kinds are now known to actually change one’s DNA, with those changes fed down subsequent generations. It’s also believed to be the cause of the greater tendency towards obesity among those who come from generations of poverty with not enough food. They don’t necessarily eat more, but the body rushes to store it as fat because that DNA hardwiring has taught it that there may be no more food available for a few days.
