Bank of Valletta shareholders and account holders had better be careful. A large chunk of the bank deposits are in the names of family members of Muammar Gaddafi, and could be pulled out once the matter of ownership is settled.

There’s also the power station guarantee to worry about, and other cases involving funny money.

If, say, Eur 1 billion are reclaimed from Bank of Valletta at once, what will happen to shareholder value and to depositors’ money?

If does not follow from the conclusion that Egrant Inc is not Muscat’s that he has no other similar operation or that one of the others is not acting for him.

In fact, I am drawing closer to the reasonable assumption that Keith Schembri acts for Muscat. Schembri has several other offshore companies and did not necessarily need one in Panama – or he may have needed one because Panama is more secret and there were risks of the BVI having to open up, but this does not preclude that Muscat is in that company with him.

A chief of staff function would not justify this amount of Muscat digging his heels in AND sticking his neck out. The huge damage to Muscat, the Labour government and the party which Muscat himself has allowed is huge, and this all to retain, shield and lie for Schembri.

Muscat would only do this if keeping Schembri gives Muscat himself a corresponding benefit. Schembri’s function as chief of staff would not justify the enormous loss of political mileage this saga has caused.

So what could be a proportional gain for Muscat in all this? Why does he need Schembri so much? What are those vital qualities which Muscat lacks that Schembri is providing, and which Muscat clearly need to be kept hidden, from the public at all costs, since a valid justification would perhaps have exonerated Muscat’s take on Shembri’s position?

These words should be written in stone for posterity. It holds true for Muscat as well as for that bastard Mintoff who was the one who initially set the ball rolling for the predicament we find ourselves in today.

My thoughts exactly. I think they needed an ‘energy guru’ to talk BS about their roadmap at the time and he was the best they could find even though he is anything but.
