Your last paragraph is worrying. Why should it be so? God forbid if that were the case. All citizens, living in a democratic country, have the right to know what goes on, once they are the ones who elect their government.

Governments change from time to time. We all need to accept this fact, as this is what democracy is all about after all. This, however, does not give anyone in key positions, a divine right to take advantage of their power and get on with their personal agenda, whether he was elected by the people or appointed by the Prime Minister himself.

Good journalists, independent ones in particular, have a duty towards the public and this duty is sacred. If journalists are silenced, the public’s rights come to an end, and democracy will cease to exist.

Our law courts, on the other hand, are there to safeguard the rights of any politician who feels wronged by any particular journalist.

It seems that he did not. He only said that he had one of his ministers (no mention of the name) included in the Panama Papers and he the PM had to make “tough decisions”.

He even lied there because Konrad Mizzi is still there with a promotion.
