The leaders of the Leave campaign – Gove, Farage and Johnson – are all people who, ironically, hyped up their privileged background and deployed their accents to good use.

It was reverse psychology: with different accents or a different social background they would never have got away with talk of ‘elites’ and ‘people are fed up of experts’. They would have been dismissed as chippy rednecks.

And that is exactly how they got the support of…chippy rednecks.

The US had more stupid rednecks than Malta and the UK…

The parallels are uncanny. Both were charlatan journalists. Both anti-EU. And just like Johnson’s war on the EU, Muscat orchestrated a devious campaign – first to keep us out of the EU, and then against GonziPN – based on deception, lies, ridicule, caricatures, and spite.

At every opportunity they could, they would undermine the Nationalist government for absolutely anything. Who can forget the campaign against Arriva, the trolls planted in crowds, the staged woman shouting “fucking wanker” at the university?

In some respects Muscat surpasses Johnson in that he seemed to have thought everything through well in advance. I doubt Johnson had his eye on the UK premiership, or even thought he would get as far as he has, back when he was oozing lies about the EU as a journalist.

In Muscat’s case, it was a concerted and conscious effort by the whole Labour gang of thieves, with a specific target in mind, i.e. making Muscat the Prime Minister, and sticking it to the Maltese taxpayer.

And now, as we are witnessing the devastation wreaked by Malta’s own Boris Johnson, the UK (will it be the UK for much longer?) will witness its very own devastation, which by all accounts will be extremely damaging if not catastrophic.

The moral of the story is: if you throw enough mud at something, some of it will stick. But it takes an educated mind, with a bit of intelligence (even a little bit will do), to be able to distinguish that mud from bullshit.

With Malta and the UK stuck with our own damaging dung-flingers, let’s hope the US sees sense and doesn’t elect the biggest dung-flinger of them all – Donald Trump.

It will be fun watching Farage wriggle out of the big banks rhetoric.
