Who gave anyone the right to insult what others hold sacred. If one doesn’t agree with another’s beliefs, one is free to do it, but that is the only right one has.

Insulting anything, or anyone, dear to another one is certainly not a right – but an abuse.

You’re wrong too: the Maltese word for ‘bead’ is ‘zibga’ (plural – zibeg). If anything, somebody who translates literally would take ‘kuruna’ to be crown.

In reply to George Pisani. 'Rosary beads' or 'a string of rosary beads' but not 'a rosary bead'. A rosary bead is just one of the beads on the string. Sorry to point it out, but I noticed the same glaring error made in at least one newspaper report and I thought it would catch on.

Perhaps she doesn’t know that it is actually insulting to the Catholic religion.

Yes, everyone has the right to insult any religion they like, so if that was her intention, bully for her. But a rosary bead is NOT a necklace and less so a bracelet, and it is crass ignorance, and if you care, insulting, to wear them as such.

From a purely practical point of view, wearing it on the outside will also increase drag in the water, thus slowing you down and causing you to use lose energy, not a good idea in an endurance event.
