Spock, thanks for bringing this up, hence former Assistant Commissionet Michael Cassar’s error of judgement in not investigating further is twice mistaken.

The prevalent chauvinistic Maltese mentality does not excuse Cassar from not following up such a serious case of bribery as reported by Ms. Zelbst in 2006.

Cassar’s lack of action back then verges on abuse of power or negligence and gender discrimination and he must be held accountable.

Malta is part of the EU and a signatory of the UN charter of Human Rights. Chauvinism is a comfortable unacceptable excuse as a cover-up for some other clandestine alliance among powerful friends.

What about also taking into consideration the chauvinistic Maltese mentality , which might have worked against Ms.Zelbst simply because she is a woman, and not even married to him.

I simply can no longer stomach this sick ‘brotherhood of male chauvinist pigs’. What a country we live in.

With hindsight when one reads that this case of bribery by Alfred Mifsud had already been filed with the former AC Michael Cassar in 2006, one seriously wonders why the case was not followed up or further investigated.

It seems that besides John Dalli as a close associate, Alfred Mifsud perhaps also had Michael Cassar too. The secret network of association among certain big wigs seems to be extensive beyond imagination.

Cassar must explain the lack of action for the 2006 reported case by the brave Ms. Zelbst.

In his recent statement to the press, Alfred Mifsud attacks Anna Zelbst’s credibility but makes no mention of the other serious issue: his engagement with Philip Morris. This must also be of concern to the EU – and to us Maltese.

Mifsud came up with a most implausible explanation for his association with the tobacco company: he said was engaged as a consultant on “the local markets, the tobacco industry and the class action legislation that was going through parliament at the time”. Apart from the fact that Philip Morris employ other experts on these subjects, Mifsud himself has no experience in the Maltese tobacco industry or in legal matters.

Most tellingly, Mifsud’s excuse does not explain why his engagement ended abruptly as soon as John Dalli ceased to be an EU Commissioner. Coincidence?
