More ignorance - Malta did NOT survive when it ceased to be a colony. It continued to depend on receiving rent from Britain for using Malta as a British base until 1979, and on British ships keeping the dockyards busy and in work. After 1979, it turned very ugly and Mintoff had to go crying to Muammar Gaddafi for financial support. That carried on until 1987 when the incoming Nationalist government began the process of applying for EU membership (the application was filed in 1990), and movement to that end built growth. The message: Malta, 17 miles by nine, cannot survive alone. We are doing well now only because Malta is in the European Union. Without that, we'd have been toast by now.

In reply to <a href="https://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2016/06/important-part-eu-part-united-kingdom/#comment-3093062">A Attard</a>.

I'm sorry if I sound a bit rude, but at moments like these, I feel really tired. Passports go with citizenship, so yes, obviously an independent Scotland would have a Scottish passport and not a British passport because different countries have to have different passports, which is the whole point of passports in the first place, to show to which country you pertain and under whose protection you travel.

And no, of course they would not sell their passports - Muscat magic idea of selling Malta's EU passports was one of the contributing factors to the Brexit vote.
