I would never call Alfred Sant an idiot. I did call him block-headed – and it had nothing to do with the referendum in and of itself, and everything to do with the fact that he could not see the obvious: that Malta would be better off in the EU, that younger generations couldn’t possibly be confined to life on a tiny rock for eternity, and that if he came round to the idea of EU membership, he would defeat the PN and become prime minister.

If you can’t be certain of the answer, don’t ask the question. If you don’t like the result, you can’t repeat the process until you get the outcome you wanted.

It is true ‘Leave’ may have lied, deceived and deliberately misled, but it was ‘Remain’s job to rebut their outrageous claims, and they didn’t do so convincingly enough for enough people.

Some people’s IQ is lower than their shoe size, but their vote counts the same as a Nobel prize winner, and this is as it should be.
It’s done, it can’t be undone, time to accept and move on and make the best of a bad situation.

The ball is still legally in parliament’s court. Remember it’s only consultative.

If these were men of backbone, considering the fallout and that major lies from the leave campaign have now come to light, parliament could justifiably say that the referendum will not be considered.

I agree people may call it undemocratic, which is why I think rather than a 2nd referendum we should be pushing for a general election were parties may put forward a manifesto promising either leave or remain.

If the referendum is consultative, there should be a new election to secure or reverse the result. Cameron or his party are in favaour of the EU, let the others decide what side they’ll take. Who ever wins will do whatever is promised, that is, either remain or leave the EU. This has happened in Malta.

In reply to Pappagallu. Each and every Member of Parliament should vote on this issue because that is what they are paid for: to represent their constituents. The British chose these MPs feeling confident that whatever they decided in Parliament is decided in the best interest of the nation.
