This syndrome, together with the over-generous packages of bureaucrats and politicians have made the small man in the street lose sight of the much larger picture and the peace that came with it, to be preoccupied instead with ‘minor’ issues.

I also think that leading EU politicians should listen more to the worries of the man in the street instead of shoving their agendas down throats if they want the EU project to move on. Otherwise, Brexit is going to be followed with many other exits.

I’m afraid you are wrong. The fact that I write here in simple terms does not mean that what I say hasn’t been backed by reading studies about it. English, like all non-phonetic languages, is read by word recognition. We recognise the word in the same way that people reading Chinese recognise the characters.

This is just a question of familiarity not of how the language is written. We see written English every minute of the day but we hardly see anything written in Maltese. The few who read Maltese regularly read it by word recognition.
