Merely incidental and, in the case of Malta at least, consequent upon the subtle subterfuges of the two main political parties who (1) adulterated our electoral system so that the No.1 vote for a candidate also determines the party of one’s choice even when, like myself, one has no party of one’s choice, and (2) insist on dividing the equivalent of a little town like Malta into no less than 13 electoral districts, so they can bring about “pervert” electoral results many of us came to know about and experienced 35 years ago.

The main political parties’ efforts to dilute the effect voting for the candidate instead of the party should not discourage the electorate from insisting on doing just that — ignoring the party and voting for the candidate(s).

Hard as it might sound I think that, in the present circumstances, the best long-term “solution” is for the UK to leave the EU, no extra-ordinary agreements to be struck with the UK (nothing better than what Norway has), Scotland to secede the UK and join the EU, the latter to study its own faults which might have contributed to this debacle and, in 20 years’ time or so, the remainder of the UK to seek re-admission which it will be granted after tough negotiations.

It must be made clear that joining the EU is a commitment. No country should feel that every five years or so it can re-consider its membership lightly.

“Never vote for a party”

Of course you have to vote for a party. It’s pointless choosing candidates unless you first choose the party for its policies. Candidates are not lone wolves – they have to implement party policy, and when you vote, you vote (through your No. 1 vote) for the prime minister and the party electoral programme.

Then watch them closely to make sure they do. If not, simply strike them out permanently from your consideration. This mechanism, adopted by enough voters, would eventually weed out all the devious, non-performing loudmouths from Parliament.

I really hoped that Hollande will show further that he just not consider the people especiallyin these times of strikes and protests,it will boosts further the FN for next years election.
