There’s a big differance.

The EU does not have a monopoly over negotiations. It is a recent phenomenon, formed by treaties with lifespans. There were several other Europe-based unions and they all served their time (the EEC, EC, WEU, Schengen rules etc).

I guess some people are historically illiterate or have short term memory or something.

Co operation between European countries has existed without the EU and continues to exist in European nations that were never members.

Norway has one of the highest standards of living, and is not a member of the EU, but maintains close ties with the other countries.
More importantly the EU has changed. It’s become more overarching, pushy and restrictive. It is forcing countries into a cycle of debt and bail-out. It is dead weight and the Brits are realising this.

The English have just voted to bring about disaster for themselves and others, and you call that self-interest. Delusion would be a better word.

And the EU is about self interest, yes, but only because all the countries of the EU have a vested interest in cooperating with each other.

Christ was also crucified by a majority of misinformed bamboozled by the elite.

The EU is a table where politicians from different countries make deals for their best interests.

There is no room for sentiments here, only economics. EU membership for the UK was never a commitment.

It is all about self-interest, and it’s weird that you would compare that with marriage.
Let me tell you just one small thing about the UK and its “commitment” to the EU. It never adopted the Euro.
