The cost of running the whole institution has increased by a similar multiple in 70 years. In 2013 the cost of the public free health service in the UK was estimated at 130 billion pounds. The NHS is a shambles. The only good thing about it is that it is free. Otherwise it is in total disarray.

As a late friend of mine, a member of the House of Lords, once told me: “The NHS is a monster that no government can afford and no government can afford to dismantle”.

The Nationalist Party attracts certain people and repels others because of its ideology. Ditto the Labour Party.

People like Dalli, Pullicino Orlando and Franco Debono left the Nationalist Party for Labour, where they found a more amenable environment, precisely because they were NOT permitted to hijack it.

That’s because you think the Nationalist Party is nationalist. It isn’t. The Labour Party is – that’s why most of the far-right ‘Nationalists’ moved to Labour, like Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando did.

I am offended you consider nationalists “fascists” and I’m sure a lot of PN supporters will feel the same with your comments. This kind of thinking will relegate PN into ideological bankruptcy, to lose every general election and perpetuate its role as a petty “at least we’re not Labour” party. Mediocre, just like American neo-cons.

As a citizen of the European Union, I am directly affected by yesterday’s vote and have every right to complain about the outcome and the stupidity of the English outside London and the northern cities. And in doing so, I am joining millions of others around the world.

Your decision does not affect only you – it will wreak disaster on London, which drives the whole of the UK, and it will prove catastrophic for the future of millions of young British people whose lives, dreams and ambitions you have chosen to ruin.

You appear to fail to realise that the result of the referendum was a leave decision with a majority of over 1.2 million people. To put that in perspective, it is over 3 times the total population of Malta, a country whose people you profess to be intellectually superior to.

You fail to comprehend that the majority of almost the entire population of England voted in favour of coming out. In total, over 17 million people voted to leave and you insist on insulting them and calling them stupid and uneducated. As a mature english native, I can assure you that they are not.

I would point out that all the major world leaders have stated the importance of respecting this decision of the people and yet you carry on pontificating your version of how things should be.

The expression ‘folie de grandeur’ cannot have ever been more appropriate.

I really feel that you need to surmount this matter and continue chasing down the insignificant corrupt politicians in your own country and stay away from taking on major world politics of which you display little or no understanding.

The people of Great Britain have voted. Daphne, get over it.

1. Malta was a colony. The UK is not.

2. You can only talk of independence if you are colonised. The UK is not colonised by the EU. It is a member state and PART OF the EU.

3. Nationalists are fascists. If you knew anything about the discourse used by fascists in the 1930s, you would immediately see the commonalities with Nigel Farage’s.

4. The only thing nationalist about Malta’s Nationalist Party is the name. It has as little to do with the party’s attitude, policies and choices as ‘progressive and liberal’ have to do with Labour’s.
