The “throwing of horns” practised by heavy metal fans has nothing to do with invoking the devil. It was started by the late Ronnie James Dio, whose Italian grandmother had a habit of throwing horns to ward off the evil eye. He called it “maloik” which is probably a corruption of “mal’occhio”
