Yes, I have been all over. My sons lived there for some years (one of them does still and voted Remain) and because they were at work all day I spent my time taking the tube to every nook and cranny and walking around.

I disagree that the places you mentioned are slums. They downmarket and shabby and the people aren't that wonderful, but the definition of a slum is something else entirely.

Our memories shift and change as the years go by; that is only natural. For example, I remember the town where I grew up as being one way - I liked it, so my memories of it reflect that - but when I watched a rare video of that town taken in the mid-1980s I was horrified at how rundown, squalid and shabby it looked, like Albania, with rubbish blowing in the wind and broken-down old cars parked along every street (and none on the roads).

If you look at photographs of the East End taken in the 1970s, rather than relying on your memory, it is likely you will be shocked.

Most people in Britain still had outside lavatories, no showers and no central heating as late as the 1960s, so I don't exactly know what they're on about with a return to the great days before they joined the Common Market.

As late as the early 1980s I knew English people who regarded olives with suspicion and had never eaten them.

I consider the United Kingdom as the prodigal son who was never comfortable in the EU. It is one of the few, if not the only, place in Europe where the Euro has not been introduced as the main currency.

Their superiority complex and selfishness has brought them to what has happened today. Eventually they will realize their mistake and will be begging to get back in.

Hopefully, from now on, all the other European countries representatives will work together to improve their performance and get closer to the people they represent.

When Britain moved from empire to the EEC it was actually facing huge economic problems with a lower GDP per capita than the then EEC 6. As an EEC/EC/EU member, its economic situation changed completely.

I can't help thinking that de Gaulle was right to say "Non" three times. They only got in once he retired.

The English are about to discover for the first time in modern history what it means to become marginal.
Do not blame the Brexists. I think that the matter that immigrants are being given better treatment than British citizens, played a major role in this verdict. I have read somewhere, that certain street names in Bristol are written in Polish to make it comfortable for the immigrants. Do you blame Brexists?

The same Nigel Farage that has already backtracked on his pre-referendum pledge that the supposed £350m a week 'going to Brussels ' will be diverted to the NHS.
