I sense the same: that all one party leader – Conservative or Labour, newly elected – has to do now is say that s/he will keep Britain in the European Union, and that leader will be elected prime minister at the next general election. The Liberals have committed themselves already, which means there is scope for another coalition government.

Not through being part of the Commonwealth, but through being part of the Commonwealth and also a European Union member state. That’s why the only people who had the vote in the Brexit referendum, other than British citizens resident in the UK, were Maltese and Cypriots resident in the UK.

The irony – or perhaps not, considering that they are of the same mentality they probably had 70 years ago – is that some Maltese people living in the UK voted leave “because there are too many immigrants”.

Incidentally, some of them were the same people who complained to Maltese newspapers that they’d been on the receiving end of racism, post-referendum.

Reaping what you sow, I guess.
