When the June 2016 deadline was announced the government had just signed a contract for the gas storage ship which had a target completion date well beyond that, which means that even if everything goes perfectly and there is no delay the June deadline would still be impossible.

The original March 2015 deadline was of course also impossible to achieve, but not in such a clear and simple way to understand.

The question is why exactly do they knowingly self impose knowingly impossible deadlines which they will later have to justify?

If these are the fabulous deals Keith Schembri strikes with his amazing ability to slice through bureaucracy (as the Prime Minister said about him) then he should stick to the paperwork. It’s our taxes they are spending.
