Times of Malta reported a few days ago: “Dr Muscat pledged that the government and Labour movement would never allow themselves to become part of ‘the establishment’.”

What? Has this man not yet realised that the Government (and that is any government) IS the Establishment and he is now in charge of it?

And because he is the head of government of a European Union member state, he is part of the EU Establishment, too.

So what is he talking about? It’s unbelievable.

Muscat is playing a very dangerous game. Cameron tried it and look where it got him.

To win over UKIP voters, David Cameron promised that he would drastically reduce immigration even though he knew he could do nothing of the sort.

On the contrary, when in government, he had to find creative ways to quietly let more people in because the economy needed them. This had the double-whammy effect of first legitimising anti-immigrant rhetoric and then making voters angry after the promise was not kept.

Similarly, to appease his divided party, David Cameron promised a referendum about EU membership hoping that the Liberal Democrats and the Labour Party would stop him from going ahead with it.

. He had no excuse not to hold the referendum at this point even though he knew the whole scheme was mad.

By promising the referendum, he legitimised the Brexit campaign which turned out to be full of lies. Then it all went downhill when the one man who could have saved him, Boris Johnson, turned against him. Johnson was playing his own cynical game, using the referendum for self-promotion safe in the knowledge that the polls were predicting a win for Remain.

The lesson here is that cynical politics lead to bad results. I love how Simon Busuttil nipped Joseph Muscat’s flirtations with racists and ‘Exiteers’ in the bud by comparing him to Nigel Farage. Busuttil has the right, honest and politically astute mindset. Muscat jumps onto the next bandwagon without a second thought. This is very bad.

You should not campaign for something you do not believe in. You should not flirt with racists just to get their votes. You should have firm political beliefs and not flip-flop according to the polls.

In short, YOU SHOULD NEVER FEED THE DRAGON BECAUSE YOU WILL MAKE IT STRONGER AND IT WILL EVENTUALLY TURN AGAINST YOU.
