Now that the buffer has been reduced, the smaller banks (‘small’ here is a relative term – they would have thousands of customers) are more exposed to the buffeting of the economic cycle.

It might look like a good move now, but once the bad loans start piling up, expect to see a few small banks go under.

This is usually followed by a few bigger banks that lent to the smaller ones. And it goes on.
