Oh, yes it is scary. The way you use Orwellian doublespeak to try to give democratic legitimacy to a process which is clearly not democratic speaks to a deep malaise within the EU.

I would like this democratic deficit to be overcome and for the EU to work. However, it is obvious that is impossible when there is no understanding about the concerns of those who live outside the Brussels bubble about the EU.

As the Home Secretary she was directly responsible for trying to bring down the government's immigration targets, which she failed to do. So I don't think she would have been that much of an asset in persuading people to vote Remain. Anyway, I think it is quite a jump to infer that because she was not on the front-line of the Remain campaign, this means that she wants all foreigners to leave the country.

I find it astonishing that you would even try to argue this point. Juncker was not voted in by millions of Europeans and there is no algebraic formula that can demonstrate that he was. You do yourself no credit by trying to labour his point. No credit at all.

He was. That is what parliamentary democracy is all about.

In Britain, whoever votes for a party standing for an election is voting for the leader of that party to become Prime Minister. British voters cannot vote for David Cameron unless they live in his constituency.

But whoever voted for a Tory MP in the last elections was voting to elect Cameron as Prime Minister.

In Europe, whoever voted for a PPE candidate in the EP elections of 2014 was voting to elect Jean Claude Juncker as President of the Commission. The main parties in the European Parliament had made it amply clear that they would veto any nominee other than the winning candidate.

Quite right. Angela Merkel is a very understanding and pragmatic leader but I think even she will baulk at limiting freedom of movement. Freedom of movement and the single market are two of the European Union's biggest successes and considered sacrosanct by many. It's either both or neither.

Theresa May is mad if she thinks she's going to get all the benefits of EU membership without giving anything in return. That is not how the European Union works and the other 27 countries will never agree to ratify such a deal. The United Kingdom's contribution to the European Union will be greatly missed but it is not indispensable. I don't think the British prime minister has grasped that yet. She needs to be faster on the uptake. The EU/Canada deal is slowly falling apart and the EU/USA deal will probably get run into the ground, no matter who gets elected American president in November. Why does Mrs May think that an EU/UK deal would fare any better?

And Beata Szydlo has some brass neck. She leads one of the most far right, Eurosceptic governments in the European Union. She wants to protect Poles from being expelled from Britain but here she is saying that Poland cannot accept any refugees. The underlying subtext of that photograph is that Theresa May could not have found a worse EU country (other than Hungary) to make this grand statement. Poland's recent political developments have left Brussels feeling ill at ease as it is.
