You keep mentioning the possibility of the UK striking a deal with NAFTA. You don't mention however that the EU concluded a comprehensive economic and trade agreement (CETA) with Canada in September 2014 and is well on the way to negotiating a similar agreement with the USA (the TTIP). If the UK leaves the EU it will have to start all over again and will not have the same bargaining power.

Surely you are joking. Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece, of all member states? They were SINKPITS OF POVERTY AND DEPRIVATION before EU membership. Italy didn't even have frigging lavatories: it had holes in the floor, euphemistically called 'Turkish toilets', in all public places, even in the smartest bars and restaurants. If you think the south of Italy is bad now, you probably haven't a clue what it was like 30 years ago.

And Spain and Greece were under dictatorships until the 1970s.

Now let's talk about some other EU member states, shall we? Let's talk about how Poland and a big chunk of Germany and the whole of Eastern Europe were SO MUCH BETTER behind the Iron Curtain, because THEY HAD STABILITY. Obviously, rights and freedoms are not on your priority list here, so why consider them at all.

More stupidity: "unelected bureaucrats". Bureaucrats are always unelected. That is why they are bureaucrats (public/civil servants) and not politicians.

Are Britain's civil servants elected? You probably think that they are.

And OF COURSE European Commissioners are not elected. Imagine if they were. It would be the equivalent of electing, by popular vote, the governor of a central bank or a state authority. But you probably think Mark Carney was elected, too - you know, from Canada.

European Commissioners are not elected, BUT THEY ARE CHOSEN BY THE ELECTED NATIONAL GOVERNMENTS OF EU MEMBER STATES.

I can't bear to listen to your repetitive hackneyed rubbish reasons any longer. They've been on the lips of every partially educated English person for the last few years. The only consolation I draw from this is that the Maltese are not the only ones infesting social gatherings and Facebook with idiotic 'opinions' that they have picked up from other idiotic people like them.

And now some other irritating person is going to come along and tell me that my informed opinion, based on gathering and analysing facts and experiences over many years, is of equal value to this person's here. I can't even be bothered to be polite anymore - not when individuals are incapable to restricting the damage done by their consummate ignorance to their own wretched lives and must inflict it on millions of others too.

Yes, because they were informed - correctly - that if Scotland broke away from the UK, it couldn't take EU membership with it in its own right, and the new independent state of Scotland would have to apply for membership.

The key bit of information to come out of the Scottish referendum is that the Scots prize their EU citizenship more highly than they do independence from the UK. But now that they are going to be STRIPPED of their EU citizenship anyway, the primary reason for clinging to the UK is gone.

Rosa, rules are always required for any given thing in life usually based on the experiences of others before us and sometimes they need changing, that's why we vote in a government of our choosing in a democracy. The Brussels commission were NEVER elected and they are without experience of democracy, but they dictate what THEY think is right for all of us, for example currently they are reviewing quotas for the dispersal of the huge immigrant problem they have brought on themselves. So what happens if THEY decide we have to take 10,000, how does that work. Yes most certainly British people resent being told what to do by unelected bureaucrats, and to reject another accusation most British prefer working with the Germans as their systems work.

I am amazed at the negative way you look at the EU. We live by dictats all our lives. They guide us. Every rule is a dictat. Be it about traffic be it about sex , coming from the government or from Brussels makes no difference. The issue is one. British people resent being told what to do. They talk of independence, when the only thing that is really making them less free is their ignorance of real sharing and cooperation. They have a fit when they hear a German word.
