Why the Nationalist Party needs a reality check: practically all of them still believe one has to have a Tal-Barrani souvenir at home to qualify. I try to explain I was 12 at the time and my mummy wouldn’t take me.

Then there are the relatively younger ones who’ll lay it on they’ve been active within the party for a couple of decades.

Talk is cheap. Practising one’s mission statement is much more difficult. To maintain some honesty, the Gasan Group, at least, should have added “…provided it does not impact our bottom line” to their fifth bullet point.

In reply to Mary Lucas. The trouble with Adesso is that the clientele is not at all sublime and the people in charge create an enabling atmosphere for them, as I discovered to my cost. I shan't be going there again. The hallmark of a good restaurant is not just food, but also discretion.

People like them: Maltese people with Middle Eastern attitudes and Middle Eastern taste. And non-Maltese who want to be resident in Malta for tax purposes but who spend as little time as possible actually in Malta because it’s so ugly and boring.
