Then, I am afraid, no newspaper in the free world is answerable to the public since all the papers are privately owned. With so many Times employees benefitting from the building contractor’s largesse, we the readers deserve an explanation by the Times, based on its investigation.

That’s what I used to believe, up to the last general election campaign. It takes years for The Times to regain the trust of the majority of the well meaning Maltese, who used to keep The Times in high esteem. The anything goes syndrome has hit The Times hard.

The Opposition knows that right now we’re experiencing the lull before the big storm.

Funny, I was under the impression that a newspaper’s business was just that – news.

Except bribery and blackmail and corruption involving its top decision-maker over several years.

The Times is not obliged to publish anything. It is nobody’s business.The Times is a private company – not answerable to the public.

From personal experience I can vouch that nothing and no one will close the mouth of The Times – repeat – nothing and no one.
