I have to agree that Sliema is a mess. Street sweepers only twice a week – 50 years ago every day although there were no plastic bottles, no beer in cans, no cartons, no pizza cardboard boxes. Dustbins in popular streets are very rare and those that they are installing are inadequate – much too small for the amount of rubbish they’re expected to take. The Sliema local council and the responsible authorities don’t seem to realise that cleanliness is so important for the tourists they want to attract. Maybe they could use the funds from the recently imposed eco tax to do some basic cleaning in the area. Not to mention the dire state of the pavements.
