The Nationalist Party made some mistakes. The major mistake was that they allowed those unqualified brainless opportunists to have manegerial positions within government structures. Those people made bad decisions.

There was also corruption, but it does not even begin to compare to what we have now in just three years of the Muscat/Konrad Mizzi/Keith Schembri klikka movement.

You think you're looking at the big picture, but you're not. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN AD/PD VOTER.

Aside from the few who are actually AD activists, AD simply draws a small protest vote. The same will happen with the PD.

So, when you strike out with the message that it's OK to vote No. 1 for the PN and No. 2 for AD or the PD, YOU ARE ACTUALLY ENCOURAGING PEOPLE WHO WEREN'T PLANNING ON VOTING AD OR PD TO GO AHEAD AND DO SO.

I hope I've explained the psychology sufficiently well.

Harry Vassallo's massive moral conscience didn't stop him popping off to a comfortable position in Brussels, even though it meant working for one of the corrupt MLPN crooks he and AD had been banging on about for decades: John Dalli.

So obviously, his massive moral conscience wouldn't have stopped him imperilling EU membership as an act of spite against the Nationalist Party (because really, that is what it was all about).

Luckily for him, people like me were having none of that - let Harry and his band stand in the way of our children's EU passports? you must be joking - and worked night and day to combat the misinformation spread by AD about how to vote. And we got there, allowing Harry Vassallo to get his first proper job at the end of his working life, just in time for his pension: working for one of Maltese history's most corrupt and lying politicians.

Malta is not a normal country. What you're saying maybe can work in a normal country.

As things stand, there are two options for the next election, either you have Simon Busuttil or you end up by default with Muscat as your prime minister.

If you don't want Muscat, you MUST vote for Simon's party candidates.

You can't vote for an AD or DP candidate and expect Muscat's Looting Party to lose the election.

If the opposition is fragmented Muscat will end up as our next prime minister, and things will get even worse for all of us...thanks to the cross party voters.

Harry Vassallo should have been taken out and shot for almost sabotaging Malta's EU membership chances. I ended up working night and day, calculator in hand, explaining to people what would happen if they did as he told them.

I also found myself explaining the apparently novel concept of opportunity cost, i.e.:

1. What do you get by voting No. 1/No. 2 for AD? Nothing.

2. What do you risk losing by voting No. 1/No. 2 for AD? EU membership.

I have no patience for people like you. You are seriously irresponsible.

Exactly. But clearly, you have missed or disregarded all my explanations, and those of others, as to why a No. 2 vote for AD is, when it comes from a Nationalist voter (No. 1 Nationalist), a vote for Labour.

And speaking of hogwash, after all his talk of principles and his prancing grimly on the moral high ground, Vassallo was off like a shot to work for one of the most corrupt politicians ever in Maltese and European Commission history: John Dalli.

So spare me the cant.

NO, THEY CAN'T.

A political party is what it says on the tin: it's a political party. Different political parties are different political parties. That is exactly why they are different and distinct. If they were not different and distinct, they would be the same political party. But they are not.

In general elections, you vote for political parties, not MOVEMENTS.

Unlike you, I know exactly what I'm talking about. The scale of people planning to vote AD in 2003 was unprecedented. This was because AD was DELIBERATELY spreading the lie that a vote for AD would not put EU membership at risk because AD was pro-EU membership.

The situation was so grave, that I had friends ringing me from their offices to ask whether this was true, then putting me on speaker phone to explain to their colleagues that if they wanted EU membership they HAD TO vote for the Nationalist Party and not for AD, because if the pro-EU vote was split between the Nationalists and AD, Sant would come to power and that would be that for EU membership.

Yes, the situation was so grave that when I went to collect my car from the large garage where it had been serviced, the foreman asked me the exact same thing, and after I explained it to him, he gathered all his staff round and had me explain it to them too.

Why in God's name do you think EU membership should have been put at risk to placate Harry Vassallo & Co?

Think sensibly.
