He was handpicked and groomed for the top post at Progress Press/Allied Newspapers by Guido Demarco, his best friend’s father, when he was fresh out of university. I don’t think he ever worked anywhere else, and he certainly didn’t go through a competitive selection process.

Loss of trust is enough to get you fired from a senior managerial post, let alone a managing director’s position.

You don’t need proof to sack a managing director. All you need is evidence.

Doesn’t this paragraph say that Allied Newspapers don’t have proof of abusive behaviour but they are taking this precaution just on case of proof being unearthed later? I get to understand that proof does not exist but there might be an inkling of such behaviour.
