I’m quite sure the government is also tampering with other economic
statistics; sooner or later, for example, the poverty figures will start ‘going down’
miraculously.

Incidentally, we all know that these 600 persons will always remain on the state payroll but, officially, they have a 5-year contract, which makes their employment precarious. So much for “niġġieldu l-prekarjat”.

These 600 long-term unemployed were that way for a reason, be it incompetence, laziness or whatever. It’s pretty obvious that they weren’t good enough to be employed in the private sector.

This point is what nobody gets unless it is pointed out to them.

Pijunieri, Dirghajn il-Maltin, Dejma, Izra u Rabbi – should sound familiar to people of my generation. For the younger people, these ‘Labour Corps’ were all created by past Labour governments to lower unemployment artificially.

And we have to keep paying their wages until they retire.

Not only do they not care because of what they can pretend to boast about now. They also don’t care because once the shit hits the fan, they will be long gone and not around to clean up the mess.
