So in Baku all is OK but in Malta there were those who bought votes. If I recall well, it was Farrugia himself who had declared this in the previous election.

In my view, this is serious and unconstitutional. The role of the speaker of the house in Malta is surely not to act as a paid observer for elections and referendums, suspect ones or otherwise, in foreign countries.

“Role of Mr Speaker
The Functions of the Speaker of the House are to ensure that order is maintained during sittings of the House and that the parliamentary rules (Standing Orders) are respected. The Speaker is also requested to give rulings in the event that issues arise on the application of these Standing Orders and that members follow the correct procedures. He or she does not have an original vote but has a casting vote in the event that there is a tie in a vote in the House. The Speaker presides over the Standing Committee on House Business, the Standing Committee on Privileges and on any other Committee as directed by Parliament. The Speaker is the principal office holder in the House of Representatives.”

That must be the elextion which delivered a landslide victory for the sitting president BEFORE votes were cast. Malta’s current speaker of the house Anglu Farrugia was an election monitor. He assessed the election as fair and law abiding. Now wonder they invited him back.
