In reply to Daphne Caruana Galizia. It's not only a question of party brands. People tend to vote for candidates who offer free or cheap services in their private practice, helped them find a job or helped them in bureaucratic affairs.

The way you buy products from X brand, in full confidence because you know you can trust the brand to have reliable products, so you should be able to vote for candidates on X party ticket in full confidence that the party has thoroughly vetted them for moral turpitude and psychiatric disorders. THAT is the problem - that the Labour brand tells you not to trust its products, while the Nationalist brand tells you that its products are semi-reliable.

People in Malta elect bad characters because they vote for the party not the person. The worst criminal is a hero if they happen to be in “my” party; a living saint is the devil in person of they happen to belong to the “other” party.

In Malta, especially under Muscat, when a politician becomes a minister, people look up at him or her in awe, as if the politician was the best lawyer, best architect, best economist and best engineer to mention a few examples.

Konrad Mizzi is the best example, where he was introduced as an “energy expert” when we all know that he’s an IT engineer.

It always amazes me how the elected leader of the nation could brazenly justify and condone by his actions the immediate post-election opening of offshore money laundering vehicles by his chosen left and right hand men. This is even more shocking than the actual deed. What some people do not understand, or do not wish to understand, is that this means that there is no limit, no boundary, no lie and no corruption which is beyond the pail. It also means that the UBO of Egrant Inc is somehow not some Johnny Nobody.
