You’re right, of course, but I think we may have been reading the word ’embarrassment’ in slightly different ways. I probably meant ‘shame’.

He has no interest in women – that much is clear.

You are also quite capable of assessing his personality: he thrives on image and feeling better than the rest. The Panama Papers revelations knocked him for six because they didn’t only make him look corrupt – when he has thrived on insulting rival politicians for far less than that – but it also made him look stupid.

He is also notoriously vindictive. Vindictiveness is directly linked to a fragile ego. People who are secure in themselves don’t feel the need to get back at others for perceived or even real slights.

I don’t agree with you. Knowing Pullicino Orlando’s violently abusive personality traits quite well, my assessment of the situation is that he himself insists on appearing routinely on the Labour Party’s television station, and that he is accommodated to avoid the fall-out.

Bear in mind that this is a man who I had to report to the police, who then summoned him to the station for a warning, because of the strings of abusive messages he sent me over the telephone. It wasn’t only the content of the messages that was warped, but the fact that they came in a string, one after the other. A normal person would send just the one message, at most two, even if angry.

Muscat can be as unpleasant as he likes; most people won’t care. I think it is because Muscat knows that the only reason why someone gets voted out is because they haven’t kept their keys to power happy, and not necessarily because they have misbehaved.

The PN got kicked out of power not because they were bad at governing. Of course they made mistakes, but that pales in comparison to what we have seen in these past 4 years. The PN lost the last election most likely because they were keeping a lid on what clearly was a development volcano waiting to burst, because they were careful with their money, or because other people wanted a quick buck which the PN was not interested in giving them. Muscat understood how power works. The PN were a bit idealistic in this sense.
