South London has thin and sporadic Tube line coverage. There are plenty of places in London where the overland train is the better, if not the only, option to reach the City itself or Canary Wharf.

Paying around GBP 300 per month for travel to and from work is typical for those we work in the City/West End, earn decent but not life changing sums, and yet cannot afford to live in zones 1, 2 or 3.

Malta is small. Its the equivalent of a medium-sized town in the UK. The cost of living here is much more in line with salaries/wages. London (and the UK in general too) the cost of living is much higher relative to income levels for the working middle class.

I can see why the notion of moving to the UK is tempting but ultimately beyond a lot of people. Life in Malta can be comfortable for anyone with a stable income stream.

Why correlate people on the minimum wage in Malta to flats for rent in Sliema and St Julian’s. People on the minimum wage in London rent in, say, East Ham not Soho or Mayfair.

Living in your parents’ home in your 20s is only tolerable if they allow you to treat it as a hotel without a reception desk. And we all know what parents think about that.

Living in your parents’ home in your 30s is completely intolerable unless you have your own flatlet.
